Auto shows are nearly as old as the car itself. Originally conceived as promotional venues for new manufacturers no one had heard of, today's auto shows have become annual showcases for the media and public alike. Although auto shows are still designed p rimarily for consumers, a select group of the major market shows host media preview days prior to their public openings.
An auto show, or motorshow, is a public exhibition of current automobile models, debuts, concept cars, or out-of-production classics. It is commonly attended by automobile manufacturers. Most auto shows occur once or twice a year. They are vital to car manufacturers and local dealers as a public relations exercise, for advertising products, and for increasing publicity.
There are other auto shows or car shows that occur on a more frequent basis, like weekly. Some meeting events have themes, such at classic cars, hot rods, etc. In any case, these car gathering are more localized events, typically comprised of car enthusiasts that meet to socialize and enjoy their enthusiasm with other car owners.
During media days, manufacturers put on elaborate introductions to showcase their new models and concept cars. It's part Hollywood, part press release and almost always entertaining.
